Greg Holman

Hi! I'm Greg Holman, director of Pop-Culture for Heritage Auctions. I'm an award winning cook, a food and travel writer, lead vocalist for the Pink Floyd tribute band "Lone Star Floyd", co-star of ABC's "Great Big American Auction" with Ty Pennington and A&E's "Storage Wars: Texas." I'm also starring in a new series for VH1 in early 2013 with Gary Dell'abate and Jon Hein.

Gregory (Greg) Holman was born in Stillwater, Oklahoma in June of 1964, an only child to Lois and George Holman. After graduating from Oklahoma State University, his father was accepted into the Architectural Graduate program at the University of California at Berkeley and moved the family to California in 1969. The late'60's hippy/artistic/music culture of the San Francisco Bay Area played a profound role in Greg's formative years. In 1974 the family moved to Austin, Texas and one year later to Richardson, Texas, a suburb of Dallas, where Greg's father took a position as the Coordinator of Visual Arts for the University of Texas at Dallas. While attending public school, Greg received an acting scholarship to the Dallas Theater Center where he wrote and performed plays for their Kalita Humphreys Children's Theatre and quickly gained a love of the stage and the performing arts.Greg had always shown a fascination with theatre and music, and much to the chagrin of his parents, began playing drums at the age of eight. By the sixth grade Greg had formed his first band. He continued playing with garage bands through high-school and into college. Greg attended Southwest Texas State University (now Texas State University) where he studied Cultural Anthropology, Astrophysics and Technical Theatre. While at school, he met his first wife Holly Hitch. Holly and Greg were married in 1989 and were divorced three years later. They still remain good friends. After college Greg tried a number of jobs, including work for several Dallas art galleries, driving 18-wheelers for the Stroh's Brewery, spinning vinyl as a Disc Jockey, and managing the largest comic book retail store in the country. Giving music a more prominent role in his life, Greg joined several performing bands, and enjoyed minor regional success, winning several batle-of-the-bands and national songwriting competitions and receiving national radio airplay with guitarist Dave Mercer and their band "Casting Shadows."Immersing himself in the performing arts, he also took on an annually recurring role, performing ad-lib comedy, as the Black Adder (the title character from the BBC series portrayed by Rowan Atkinson) at Scarborough Renaissance Faire in Waxahachie, Texas, where he met his second wife, Lisa Gibson. After owning a small logistics company in Addison, Texas for several years, Greg became a computer systems engineer, and worked on computer networks for AT&T, H&R Block, and Carlson Restaurants Intl. (T.G.I. Friday's parent company). After spending a number of years in the digital world, Greg realized that computers were not going to be his life's work. He decided to take some time off to pursue another of his passions, cooking, and became a full-time competition chef and garnered numerous awards in a several cooking fields, also receiving his H.A.S.P. food certification from Texas A&M University. In 2006, while preparing to open a barbecue company in Dallas, Greg received a call from Heritage Auctions, the largest collectibles Auction house in the World, asking him to help guest-write several catalogs for their Comics and Pop Culture divisions. Greg accepted and soon found himself employed as a full-time Consignment Director for the company. He has been with Heritage for over six years now.His expertise and knowledge of pop culture and comics, and his personable nature have been key elements in his success in the auction industry and have consequently drawn the attention of a number of television networks and production companies. Greg has done screen tests, interviews and/or shows for ABC, A&E, Cineflix, The Discovery Channel, The History Channel, NBC, PBS, Viacom, and a number of other independent production companies. He is the co-star of Ty Pennington's ABC special "The Great Big American Auction" (2011) and has appeared on A&E's "Storage Wars: Texas" (2011). In the summer of 2012 Greg filmed the first six episodes of a new VH1 series, co-starring with Gary Dell'abate ("The Howard Stern Show" Executive Producer) and Jon Hein (founder of jumptheshark.com and star of "Fast Food Mania"). He is also working in a starring role on a new series for NBC/Universal/Bravo that is currently in pre-production.Greg is still a Director with Heritage Auctions and is an active food and travel writer. He is a columnist for several magazines, he and his wife Lisa both write for the Press Club of North Texas, and he pens the popular, award-winning food blog EatDallas.blogspot.com. Greg still enjoys performing music regularly as the lead vocalist for the nationally recognized Pink Floyd tribute band "Lone Star Floyd" and he has recorded several albums as a drummer and vocalist. He has recorded with Dolly Parton's band in Nashville, has been an opening act for Carlos Santana, and has recorded soundtracks for television and radio. Greg is pursuing work in television, film, radio, and in print, and is interested in working on food, music, pop-culture, and auction/collectibles-related media projects.
